DMC5 - Return of the King

Lurking in the shadows under veil of night
Constellations of blood pirouette
Dancing through the graves of those who stand at my feet
Dreams of the black throne I keep on repeat

June 15th is the day of His resurrection! Rejoice on his Return!

This artwork done in June 2021 was loosely based on another iconic Akira artwork.
Just like artwork from 2020, they are some facets of Vergil (his past, his present, his human / demon side, etc.) hidden here, together with some things based on his theme song too (e.g. the black throne).

The full list of symbolisms are as below:
1/ BG - Qliphoth trunk and Fields of Hell (DMC5) represented his current time; broken glass shards and ruins of Hell (DMC3) represented his past when he fell into Hell at the end of DMC3; dark blue sky with sparks is intentionally meant to refer the same BG treatment during his resurrection cutscene and the final level where he was the final boss. Basically the right represented his past, the left his present, united by his return (the middle).
2/ Black Throne - a lyric from his character theme song "Bury the Light" by Casey Edward ft. Victor Borba.
3/ 3 Familiars - represented as motifs carving on the black throne; Nightmare as the gold halo on the back-seat, Griffon on the left arm and Nightmare on the right arm of the throne.
4/ Crown of Horns - represented his full-demon form Urizen in DMC5
5/ One-sided pauldron with purple cape - represented his corrupted Nelo Angelo form in DMC1
6/ Attire loosely based on the description 'Kimono Goth Coat' as written in his concept art in the DMC5 Official artbook. Took some artistic license by merging his DMC3 design (vest and boots design) with his DMC5 design (colour scheme).
7/ V's book on his right, because the book came from his past (based on its origins illustrated in the Visions of V manga)
8/ Sitting pose - based on Urizen's throne pose (early game) and end-game Vergil sitting pose inside the DMC van (menu cutscene)
9/ The Qliphoth root grew out from his left and ended on the throne above him - to convey that he has always been trapped by his past till the present (the very reason why he triggered the entire set of events that became DMC5's main storyline).
10/ Akira homage - Vergil by technicality is the ruler / demon emperor of Hell after he ate the Qliphoth fruit, just as Tetsuo got his full powers / transmorph while sitting on his stone throne.

Made 2 colour thumbs, eventually deciding to go with V2 as it best reflects his trademark character colours.
