--------
My take on the (other) son of Sparda being the dark dragon of the family.
Vergil's character design in Devil May Cry 3 has always fascinated me, and from his character design language, I noticed a lot of Asian dragon imagery/influences. Hence this illustration idea came to mind.

This artwork has a lot of history behind it. Allow me to share them here:
ORIGINS: Ironically, I created this artwork back in 2012, during that dark period of post-graduation and was in the midst of job-hunting (and going thru several rejections from local companies). After I was done with this and added him into my portfolio, I finally landed my first job; I alluded it to him helping me in a way.

FAME: This very same artwork got featured by the official Devil May Cry account on Facebook in June 2013, and was also given the Daily Deviation award at Deviantart (my very first DD) in the same month. (Un)ironically, It was also the most stolen / pirated / reblogged artwork for the next few years that at some point I had to decrease the quality and add a watermark to it. I made a low amount of A5 prints of it for Comic Fiesta and the first run in 2012 completely sold out (as well as its second run in 2013).

NOW: For the 1st time since its inception, I shared my work-in-progress from the sketch stage to its final cropped version here on Artstation. Looking at it now, the process felt primitive compared to my current workflow now, and there was a lot of back-and-fros and adjustments, but along the way with time and experience, the process does get faster.

Last words - Till this very day, Vergil remains my muse of motivation, and I am forever grateful for the lessons in life. If I have to pick an artwork that best represent me, this would easily be my 1st choice.
